Our Mission
Every since the Sacred Body of our crucified savior was reverently laid in the tomb, there to wait the hour of its glorious Resurrection, the Catholic Church has been most solicitous to surround the burial of those who hope to rise with Christ with an atmosphere of deep Christian faith and profound reverence.
In the earliest days, the Church found it necessary to make rules and regulations which would protect these sacred places and the relics laid therein. The Church could not and would not allow anything within the holy precincts which would desecrate them, lessen their beauty, or bring dishonor to the dead.
To ensure the sacred character of St. John the Baptist & St. Mary’s Cemetery operated by Our Lady of Grace Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria in accord with the mind and traditional practice of the Catholic Church to establish and maintain good order, the following rules and regulations are in effect.
Policies & Procedures
Notification or request for burial must be at least three working days by calling our Priest or parish office and they will notifying the cemetery representative.
Each lot will be sold as an easement and not an ownership.
Each lot consists of two individual burial spaces with some single easements available (4’ x 10’ to 11’).
Due to limited space, prices range from $500 to $1,000 for a single burial easement 1⁄2 a lot. (only available on the outside perimeter of the of the cemetery, that also will be shared with another single
easement)
$1,000 for double burial easements (1) lot. For parish members only. $2,000 for double burial easement (1) lot for non-members.
Casket Internments will require a vault.
Only two vaults per lot or four cremains will be allowed on each full lot. 8’x 10’ or 8’ x 11’
One cremains on single lots (4’x10’ or 4’x11’)
Cremains will be required to be buried at least 30” deep in a retrievable container and not spread above ground. The container should be constructed of a durable material, preferably metal.
Burial of cremains shall be done in a timely manner following the notification of the cremation and request for burial. A cemetery representative must be present at the burial.
No cremains will be buried at a later date on an easement that is full. (example: 2 vaults or cremains as allowed in the above regulations).
Any relative of a deceased family member already buried and requesting burial on a purchased easement, must provide proof of purchase and an affidavit stating transfer of entitlement for burial.
The graveside marker must be approved by the priest prior to placement.
The sextant or their representative shall approve the size and placement of the marker footings.
Any disinterment of remains shall be done by a licensed grave digger and the cost of the disinterment shall be borne by the person or persons requesting it. Any damage to cemetery shall be replaced by the same.
Planting of individual gravesite trees, shrubs or flowers are prohibited.
No animal or pet shall be allowed burial on any easement.
At the discretion of the cemetery board these rules and regulations may be revised in the future without notification of each individual easement purchaser.
